Can anyone help determine gender on 6 wk old RIR

We thought we had two hens, however, we're starting to wonder. The darker one (Penny) has developed a more pointed tail and has been seen ruffling "her" neck feathers in a way the other one doesn't. I'm thinking "Penny", might be a "Lenny". Any thoughts?

Rosie wouldn't sit nice for the photo shoot so we don't have a clear shot of her head. They both have small combs that are still yellow. Rose is actually larger than Penny, she weighs more and has thicker legs.

I think you would be seeing red by now if you had a boy.

ETA: I have never had that breed, i am guessing by my experience with other chicken breeds.

I'm going to say pullet. I'm not seeing any red in that comb, any wattles, and "her" legs are nice and thin.

Thank you, thank you. I'm making myself crazy thinking Penny isn't a girl. She's my favorite!! She comes running to great me and pops up onto my lap (makes my husband a little jealous).

I am guessing, but I would say Penny is still a Penny and not a Lenny. Chickens have so many behaviors that are not limited to just one or the other sex. You might need to look more at the physical signs like size and color of comb, shape of neck feathers, etc. to help determine gender. But so far, I would vote you have two pullets.

The difference in tails doesn't matter?

Telling the sex of a chicken by it's tail is simply not accurate. I tried that last year and swore up and down that I had more pullets than cockerels. In the end, I had 8 cockerels and 4 pullets! The tails really do not tell the tale!
