Can anyone help with a dog with a possible food allergy?

I also started giving my dogs filtered water (back in the day thru a pur filter, now from my fridge). When we had moved to NY, I found my one dog got really bad tear stains out of nowhere, and someone said maybe your pipes in the building or the different chemicals in the new water set it off. I started using filtered water and they went away. I’ve used the filtered water ever since, because why not?

I feed my 7 month old weim Taste of The Wild High Prairie. It is grain free and made in the USA. My sister feeds her 5 month old great dane Diamond Naturals. We are both pleased with the foods and don't plan on changing. On the note of some grain free foods causing heart issues, science has a funny way of always proving itself wrong. Remember when eggs were supposed to be bad for us? And Pluto was a planet? Yeah, take any study with a grain of salt
I think Pluto recently became a planet again.

If he’s been on this same food his whole life and never had a problem then it seems rather unlikely it would be the culprit. Although it can happen. Is it possible the company changed the formulation? That can cause issues. Otherwise, you might be looking at an environmental allergy or something other than food. Summer and fall have a lot of potential allergens.
This is a good point, although I know that he did have a limp when he was 1-2 as a puppy when he would run around own the beach all day. We assumed it was because he had raw paws form running on the rocks and sand, but it was you the time that we switched to the different food so it could be an earlier allergen coming back with age?

Thank you this is a good point! I appreciate this!

So your suggesting to just feed him actual near and veggies rather then a precessed dog food. That is not a bad idea actually. I am liking this.
In the past 40 years we had our share of dogs with horrible food allergies while feeding them prefabricated processed stuff, no matter how high the price range. And then switched to real food - much better control of ingredients and it is not more expensive. It just takes a bit more of planning ahead and a nice sized deep-freezer.

Good idea, we do filter our water because we were worried about the quality so we could be giving them filtered water too. We did get a water test and it wasn't that bad, but we still use the filtered water for us just incase, so why not do this for the dogs!

That could possibly be it although I don’t think food would cause limping? But I’m not sure. I would really get him tested for Lyme disease. It’s a relatively simple mix and might solve his issues. It can go dormant I think once they have it. So that could explain it too. He could also have joint issues possibly? Labs are prone to hip and joint issues. I would try giving him a supplement like Dasuquin or Cosequin. They can help prevent issues.

I know feeding dogs fresh/raw food is a hot topic and if you can do it for yours, great! Maybe OP can and solve the issue for their dog. I personally could never deal with the sound of a dog's teeth crunching through raw bone, makes me shudder!
