!!! CAN ANYONE HELP WITH WHATS WRONG WITH MY DUCK?? !!!

Hi, I have two Karkhi Campbell ducks, one male and one female. This morning on letting them out my female came out with a little hobble and then proceeded to sit down. When going near she would try and drag herself along before trying to stand and hobble along.

She was not like this last night and was acting just fine. I have included some photos but they are from a video my partner sent. Not sure how I can get a video to upload on here.

She did something similar a couple of months ago for a day or so and then seemed fine. For the moment I have put her back inside her house and him in his pen. Hoping I’ve done the right thing as they are in season and didn’t want him trying to chase her and make her worse.

Any help or advise would be great fully received. Thank you

Separating for the moment is the right thing to do I think

Her posture is a little strange, so I'm not certain of the cause, but I think we should treat for two things

Firstly, treat for egg binding, it's possible that she is egg bound. Do you know if she laid an egg recently?
To be on the safe side I would give her 1ml calcium gluconate, or 600mg calcium citrate. You could also do a supervised 15 minute warm soak, just plain water, not hot. Let's rule out an egg being stuck.
Secondly, I would consider the possibility that the drake has injured her, in most cases you need more than one hen per drake- the correct ratio to prevent overbreeding is 3-6 hens per drake, depending on his temperament.
He may have unintentionally hurt her while mating with her- I would feel both of her legs carefully, check for heat and swelling. It would be best to confine her to a smaller space indoors with food, water, and peace and quiet while you figure this out. That way you can observe her and learn more- keep your eyes open for whether she is passing waste, eating or drinking. Also see if she is putting weight evenly on both legs when she stands up.

Thanks for your reply. Our girl hasn’t laid an egg in a few years.

She seemed just like her normal self yesterday all day. Walking normally, eating, drinking and digging.

Also the calcium glauconite and calcium citrate….. where can I get hold and is it a powder to mix with water and what’s the best way to make sure she has it? Should I put it in her water bowl or food??

Walmart, Walgreens, any type of store that sells vitamins for people, they'll be in the supplement/vitamin isle. You'll just pop a whole pill in her mouth

I’m in the UK so I’ll have a look for some pills here in my local supermarket.

When I get home I’m going to give her a warm water bath so if it’s egg or just a bit of rough from the drake she’s being well looked after.

P.s she hadn’t laid eggs (not that we have noticed) for maybe two/three years. Is this normal?

Nothing surprises me I have 13 yr old Muscovy who should be done with laying and ever so often I'll find an egg so start with egg binding I would crush the calcium citrate though instead of forcing a large pill down her throat. does she have a special treat? you could give her some watermelon with the cal citrate or thawed peas if she likes them. Calcium gluconate may be harder to find that would be in a feed store or online. We have to be very careful giving pills or liquid to poultry so we don't cause them to aspirate. Let us know what you can get and we can give you info on how to give it. I would say it is either an egg or over mating.

Just been to give her some peas. You can see her moving in this as she seems to hobble not putting pressure on the one leg.

She’s also pooing so I’m taking that as a good sign???
