I have this that appeared right next to my chicken run and yesterday my Roo decided it was something good to eat. No idea if he ate any substantial amount before I shooed him away. Is it possibly some sort of tomato?

Jerusalem Cherry-a species of nightshade. Some folks call it a Winter Cherry.
Too tall for winter berry. I've eaten winter berries, & they're typically more at ground level.
Looked them up, I think were talking about different plants now.

I was thinking about the Winter Green Berry plant which has edible berries.

The plant in the picture is indeed the toxic type.

Is the rooster who ate some of the plant doing okay?
Right as rain. Most likely saved by being such an utter gent. Pecked at one, liked the taste and started calling everyone to let them know he found a tasty thing. Won't eat himself, lets the hens eat. I swear he lives on love and fresh air.

Anyway, I shooed him away before any of the hens even came over.
