That is what I have heard. I hope it isn't so, but apparently they are breed more for laying than color. There are not to many Marans that lay an extremely dark egg. And I have heard that each egg they lay is slightly different in color, as they age they get lighter too. I would ask around on here where to get some very dark layers. There are breeders out there, you just have to look and there are waiting lists.
