Has anyone got any ideas about this bird. The breeder thought it was probably a girl (we got it 3 weeks ago) and told me to look out for changes in the wattles - but it is hard to know when I haven't got another silkie to compare it with! I think it is about 4 months old now. The thing that is slightly odd about it is its behaviour. It's not like the other 3 chickens we got (a barnevelder, silver fayoumi and cream legbar), it tends to do its own thing and bullies the barnvelder , though it is the most timid of me. Still won't come and feed from my hand, though the others did after about 2 days.

Hmmm i think its a hen, altho it is a bit young to tell atm. I would wait another month and see. Good luck! Oh, and she/he is a pretty hen!

This is good so far! But what do you make of its behaviour? Everything I have read on silkies talks about their lovely friendly nature, but this one is not lovely or friendly! The opposite in fact - the other hens don't like it and it doesn't seem to like them. I started to wonder if this meant cockerel!

Sometimes if you do not handle a chicken (doesn't matter which breed) when they are younger, they are not as tame as chicks you've raised yourself.
