my hen went broody... and I didn't have any fertile eggs so my father grabbed some eggs from a friend.
I have no idea what I ended up with... we got five black and this one yellow. anyone have any ideas?
its very hard to know at that young of an age but they could be cross breeds or are they all full bred? because its nearlly impossible telling what crossing went into a chick of that age but good luck!!
hi all! the chicks are almost 9 weeks old now.
this is what the yellow one turned into...
this is last week, next to one of our hens, and one of the other chicks that hatched the same day. all the others look almost identical to the black one here, smaller and almost no comb. I'm assuming that we ended up with one Roo??
Can you get a full length photo of the chicken standing? It has a big red comb for 9 weeks so is probably a boy, sorry! The black one is a girl, are all their combs that small and pale?
yes, the others have almost no comb at all. I'll try to get another picture. It doesn't bother me that we ended up with a Roo, as long as he isn't aggressive towards us. thanks!
Just a guess, but looks like it is a cross between a silver sussex and a Wyandotte . Can you ask your dads friend which breeds he keeps? That would give you somewhere to start.
