I have my first call duck eggs in the incubator, and my question is this: can call ducks live happily alongside my chickens? I currently have a flock of 10 bantam cochins and I'd like to add 2-4 call ducks to the mix. If it does not work out, we do have a spare tractor for them to live in as a backup plan.

These two - bantam cochins and call ducks - just seem like they would be an okay mix, but I have no firsthand experience of mixing chickens and ducks and would love your input.

I have a slightly different situation but maybe it will help. I have muscovy ducks that share the shed with my large breed flock. The ducks make a mess with the water, fouling it up as well as splashing it everywhere, so it's always wet around the water bowls which could be bad for Cochin bantam and their feathered feet.

My ducks and chickens occasionally peck at each other as well, so there's some cross species aggression.

My bantam cochins are meek and gentle, and I personally wouldn't want mine always wet from the ducks messing the water.

You can certainly try it and see how it goes. I would have a good back up plan in place though.
