Can BYC have a veterans and families topic?

Well we need to keep this going, soooo

My dad was a Vet, my stepdad was a Vet, 3 uncles are Vets (one deseased), my aunt was a Vet, and more than 40 cousins are Vets.

There's more, but this should be enough for now.

I think this is a great idea. I'm the daugther of a vet, sister to two vets and mother (& in-law) to two vets, that's not counting extended family. I'd like having one place to go to read what other BYCer military families and vets are up to. I know the mods may think this could turn into a "political/war confrontation problem", but I don't think that would be the case anymore than any other thread from what I've experienced here.

Thanks Steve for starting this (and I second the motion for a saluting smilie for us to use on the new section)!

Great idea! After all the vets/their families have done for us, this would be a very small gesture-giving them a place to post/chat.

That's what I was thinking as well when I started this. On Vets day or Memorial day there are always a bunch of posts and off and on their are people with family members going into the service. It would be great to have them all in one spot.

This seems an appropriate place for this question: since the holidays are upon us, does anyone have legitimate links for groups that arrange sending cards/gifts to those on active duty? I just haven't seen any this year.

And the USO.

That's a great idea to think of our men and women overseas during this time of year and thank you! One Christmas I got a card from a school class and I was really touched.
