Steve, I don't necessarily think that there is a lack of support of troops per se, but this is a chicken forum with many social aspects for which we've put the RR and Family areas to keep them apart from what should be the core of BYC, chicken related topics. In order to make a new subcategory there needs to be enough threads discussing the topic. For now, veteran/active military topics would go into family life until there is enough active threads on the veterans and their families to keep a sub section alive.
For a start, if you can link to a post 20-30 distinct veteran centric topics that have been active/started in the past two weeks, we may have a case, however, I don't quite think there are that many to keep a non chicken related section active. You may consider visiting arfcom for such chat, as they do have under their general section sub forums for veterans (Hall of Hero's) and deployed (Deployed!).
