I just got 2 female ducks. They are totally smitten with each other. They sleep in separate quarters from my hens. During the day they hang out in the chicken coop area. The chickens are free range and come and go as they please. So far no problems but the ducks are very young. Is it possible for them to cohabitate? Are there any health risks along as they do not fight each other?

First and foremost...:welcome! i hope that you enjoy this sit as much as the rest of us do! I have learned SOOO much, and I hope that you do too!
Secondly, YES! Your chickens and ducks can both coexist together! My did for a very long times int why are all healthy and happy! It might take awhile for them to get used to each other, but once they do they'll be just fine!

Good luck!:thumbsup
*You should post some pics of your chickens... I'm sure we'd all love to see them!!:love

Yes - they can - ours do - BUT the ducks will make a mess of the water. I have to change out the water pans a lot more often with just 3 ducks here.

Hello...:frow..
My Ducks absolutely hate my Chickens. I have small Call Ducks and big Brahma Rooster and Orpington Hens. My Calls chase the Chickens so I have a mesh fence to separate during free ranging the Chickens. To me Chickens are filthy so I personally would never House Ducks with them..

Possibly.I have issues with males of opposite species not getting along, but the duck hens usually avoid everyone. The drakes test some of the more dominant or “testy” hens to push to the point the hens attack them. But I have never had a huge issue.Consider ducks are filthy animals, don’t get me wrong, chickens (Most animals) have a dirty side but ducks meet it to a T.They make a huge disgusting mess out of water,it can get very icky with ducks, escpecially after rainstorms.

Thank you! I was starting to worry that it was a bad idea. Love my ducks and my hens!!

You are on point with ducks being sooo messy (but happy) with their water!!

I would not want to house them together b/c of the water issue. And I would not want to keep a drake in the vicinity of female chickens. If he tries to breed a chicken, it's possible that he will kill her b/c of incompatible reproductive systems. Have had ducks in past, but never with chickens.
