I was just looking up meat to give my chickens and saw this post...to think I was worried about giving them a little roast beef. Mouse and Rats? Shredded? Nothing left? ooookayyyy this new chicken momma has a lot to learn and to also stomach in the visual that was just created! Haha!! Thank you!Chickens are omnivores meaning they eat veggies and meat.
As long as the meat is fresh and without a lot of herbs and salt or sugar, it's fine.
As to what kind of meat? Pretty much everything, though I'd be sure of course pork and fish were cooked well.
As to what they'll eat in nature? Anything they can get their little beaks on. They eat lots of bugs, of course, and grass, seeds, berries...and a mouse or two...or rat.
My friend had a cat playing with a mouse in the yard. The cat dropped the mouse that ran panicked into the chicken run. "He chose poorly." In a manner of seconds the chickens had shredded the mouse to nothing, gulping down what they could grab. There wasn't a speck left.
So, yeah. Chickens eat meat. (Watch your back in the yard).
Last week I found an old dry shin bone in the chicken run.Chickens are scavengers. They will eat anything that doesn't eat them first. Anything they can find or catch is fair game.
I have always felt it would not be a good idea to lose consciousness in either the chicken pen or the pig pen.Last week I found an old dry shin bone in the chicken run.
Big critter!
I can only hope this was something I gave them a long time ago and forgot about.
Otherwise I suspect my chickens of taking down Bambi and burying the evidence!
Remember, never fall down in the chicken run or you might become dinner.
