Can chickens eat coconuts?

Kind of a random question, but are coconuts ok for chickens?

Absolutely, but you will have to open them up for your birds.

On vacation in Kauai, we were totally charmed by free ranging chickens who lived at a farmer's market, and they looked very happy eating the meat out of split coconuts on the ground.
