Can chickens eat too much

It will help you to know what's going on if you feed at the same time according to schedule, every day.

Are you doing this?

I wish you luck.

But also, actually I had wondered about this question also. I don't have this problem, but I had wondered if they would do it.

What I'm seeing with chickens and ducks is that if I stick to the same schedule every day they will eventually start leaving some of the feed, but then switch to grass and looking for bugs. They'll still go after bugs even when tired of the other stuff.

And I've seen some of the younger ones chase wasps lol. This happened today actually.

Yup, sounds like a protein problem. The general rule is a quarter pound of feed per day per bird, roosters usually eat less than that once fully grown. Generally though layer feed is high protein. Try offering him some of the broiler feed, see if he prefers it. Chickens aren't like horses and humans, they won't eat too much.

I have a almost fully feathered chick that over eats! When making trips outside to get accustomed she grazes and does well. As soon as she has a feeder in front of her she just doesn’t stop. Her crop last week, before I noticed this new behavior, was about the size of a large mandarin orange. She had to be fasted for 24 hours add ACV to water and make sure everything passed. Today was her first day back to somewhat normal behavior after a gradual return and she’s back in chicken isolation because she wouldn’t stop eating her feed. I don’t know what I’m going to do with her...

Most layer feeds are a lower protein. 16% is the usual.

Flock Raiser/All Flock is 20%

Meat Bird/Game Bird/Show Bird Feed is 22%.
