a friend of mine said she gave a pie to her chickens and it killed them all. she also said it was moldy. did they die because of the mold or sugar.thank you

They died from the mold. The lesson is never feed moldy food to birds. Sugar is not good for chickens in high concentration like in candy especially, but the sugar in a pie is unlikely to kill them.
x2

I too have lost birds to moldy feed (thrown on the ground then rained on it).

The mold. Sugar has proven to be beneficial to chickens.

Sugar, in very small amounts in certain circumstances can help, but over that it can get unhealthy quickly.

I have given chickens give moldy stuff, but not in high quantities. Also give chickens stuff which has gone bad, sour etc. Meat gone bad. Depend on the kind mold also some are more dangerous than others. I dont give chickens sugar type items.
