Can chickens mate even if the hen don't lay eggs yet?

I've had chickens for a while and seen my rooster mounting one of the hens he's with, but they are not old enough to lay they still have 2 months before they lay eggs,so can they still mate if so is the sperm stored?

Not sure about the sperm question but yeah it is okay if they breed before they lay, mine "do it" all the time!

Well I seen them doing it and thought they were fighting and knew they weren't.and I've already hatched 2 Rhode Island Red minis by their mama last summer and that was awesome.but I got these when they were babies and they are massive. But thanks!!
