Baby chicks inside the egg can hear and talk to the broody hen and they also talk to each other. I've seen my broodies talk to their unhatched chicks. Too cute!

Yes they can. I always spend a few minutes several times a day from day 16 on talking to the chicks. I've noticed that if they hatch while i'm gone and i come home and go check the incubator I say "hi" to the chick and it starts chirping and looking for me, when i talk more and they realize i'm above they start looking at me and quiet down. Then once out of the incubator they move to the closest spot in the brooder to where they hear my voice. I end up having chickens that are extremely bonded to me :)
