I am wondering if anyone can tell me what breed of rooster and what breed of hen I would need to have to be able to have my own broiler chickens hatched and raised? I have read that the broilers are a giant Cornish cross, but cross with what? I would like to breed and raise my own broilers instead of ordering them from hatchery. If anyone knows for sure the breeds required and could share that info with me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you muchly,
ChickenGirl78
It is Cornish x rock. But you won't get the giant birds like from a hatchery, they have been carefully selecting parent stock for a long time. The chicks you get are hybrids.
If you want to try breeding them, you could maybe try and get the freedom rangers, they got get as big as fast, maybe they will be able to breed naturally?
but I have a white rock if he breed a black sex link hen what type of chicks I will get
Not true at all, sorry. They're large and don't always have good fertility, but over the years on this board we've seen several offspring from CX roosters. Why on earth would they be sterile?Cornish cross roosters are sterile and can't reproduce
