Sometimes the ducklings will tumble upside down and have some trouble getting right side up again. Today I found a 3-day-old duckling dead, upside-down, in its own cage. Other ducklings okay. It evidently died while upside down, but they were all fine a few hours ago when I checked. I googled this question and found nothing.
I know sheep can die from being cast, but ducklings?

The only time I have seen ducklings have trouble flipping over is if they hatch with a swollen abdomen from too much humidity. Sometimes I have been able to get them to poop down some of the swelling by massaging the belly but if it is a bacterial infection of the navel like "mushy chick" they will flip over on their backs and not be able to flip over again. I think it is more the infection that kills them and not being upside down, though. I keep my humidity on the low side during hatching after dry incubation so the babies do not get bloated bellies.
