Can Ducks do ok in Canadian cold weather

HI,, I live in Just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, can anyone tell me about Ducks and if they can live well in cold weather and what they need to do well... I have chickens but I hear ducks can be real messy,,

Ducks can do fine in cold weather with proper shelter.

my real question I guess is,,, what do they need... I heard water to swim in??? are they as messy as they say?? temps.. we freeze here are they easy like chickens

They do need access to water deep enough to clear their beaks. They do like to swim but they don't need a elaborate pond. A kiddie pool is more than sufficient. Yes they are extremely messy. I've only recently acquired chickens but there doesn't seem to be much difference in care between them and my ducks.

thanks, for the help.. we would like to get ducks but will have to really research what kind is best,, it of course if only for fun.. thanks again for you help..

also when I say fun ,, I do mean like a part of the family,, just not in the house...
