Can feathers go into the compost?

I composted my first batch of shavings this past year and can hardly wait to use it in the spring.
I'd like to start another batch but my chickens are moulting.
Do feathers break down? Do they add anything beneficial?
What about the scattered feed (crumbles) I scoop as I'm cleaning poop out of my run? Any benefits? They go in the compost as well.

Thanks in advance,
Carrie Lynn

Feathers and fur are both fine for the compost. Feathers are actually quite beneficial to the soil. I compost them all the time.

I also compost my dogs fur after I brush her out.

Feathers are great in the compost pile, besides who the heck want's to spend 40 hrs sifting through litter to remove them.
