Can geese get egg bound?

I have a 10 months old goose that went on the nest around 5 hours ago and she's been sitting there ever since. She sat on it a few times during the day too but only for a few minutes. She keeps adjusting the nest and changes her position. Untill today it only took her like 30 mins to lay the eggs. I wonder if geese can get egg bound like chickens. She isn't lethargic or anything. If I talk to her she "talks" back, she chews on my hand and cleans her feathers so she seems pretty normal except for the next problem.

You don't hear about eggbound geese much, although there was a thread recently about a goose with a prolapse and the responders agreed that egg laying proplems don't happen much. It seems like some geese like to hang out on the nest sometimes and arrange it even before they really start incubating the clutch of eggs. If she laid her egg then she should be fine.

It's morning here. Still there. She's still doing the same things as yesterday. I felt an egg under her though and I'm not sure if it's hers. Gave her water and food. Another thing I noticed is a sort of popping sound coming from her inside. I don't know how to describe it. It's like leather being rubbed hard. No idea if that makes sense.


Can geese get broody at 1 year old? We don't even have a gander anymore.

Edit: ok so I took the egg she was sitting on (giant egg by the way) and picked her up from the nest. She immediately ran to the other geese. I think she was broody afterall. The nest is full of fuzz.

I think you are right, those girls can really keep us wondering. Here I am hoping mine will go broody. Relieved to hear she is okay.

Now she's ok, though when she remembers about the nest she gets a bit agitated and tries to open the door. The bad part is that there is only one nest and the other geese use it for laying too so I won't be able to keep her away from it for too long.

Now she's ok, though when she remembers about the nest she gets a bit agitated and tries to open the door. The bad part is that there is only one nest and the other geese use it for laying too so I won't be able to keep her away from it for too long.

I have a broody Muscovy duck that I'm just letting it run it's course, I've never been able to break them. Since she won't give up I have now given her 2 shipped goose eggs to keep warm till my goose goes broody. I can't keep the doors closed either my ducks and chickens use this house for laying too.

Geese can get egg bound; I lost my beautiful Keld in 2012 due to that.

I think I recognize the popping sound from my goose; it's like a churning or grinding, and I'm positive it's from the gizzard. The gizzard is a strong muscle, working to grind down all the food they eat.
But it also sounds like an egg being slowly crushed - scary!

Oh man how didn't I think of the gizzard. That's the sound. She hasn't laid too many eggs, maybe 9 or 10. One of my geese had her first egg today. The situation is kinda crappy because there's only one nest and unless I pick the broody one up and take her out, she won't move. And in order to keep her away from the nest I got to close the door. The others refuse to lay anywhere else. Then night comes and she will get to her nest again. It's funny because I even took all the eggs and she's still sitting there. I hope she gets over it fast.
