My poor little girl is crushed because her favorite chicken Rosie has the beginning symptoms of ascites...my question is can we humans get sick from our chickens having Ascites??? I won't let my daughter near the chickens until I know she won't get sick too. Please help!!!

Sorry about my answer......Ascites in chickens is retention of cavity fluids caused by organ malfunction......Same in humans, usually liver failure.....While the causes are similar functionally, there is no causal connection between the two......Ascites is an organ function failure not a disease per se, like malaria or influenza, that can be transferred from one animal or species to another.....In chickens it is usually associated with super fast growing broilers such as Cornish Rocks, in humans with alcoholism.....No one is going to "catch" or "contract" it from contact.....Hope this helps......
