I have two 4 week old chicks and I've recently run out of food and am currently unable to get them more. I happen to have cracked corn and plain oatmeal in my house and was wondering if these are safe to feed the chicks??

Is this just for a day or 2? I know that wet oatmeal is a great treat. Personally, I wouldn't feed cracked corn at that age. Could you boil the heck out of it? It doesn't have near enough protein though. Any fruits or veggies you could give them? Whole grain bread? Cereal? Old salad stuff?

We don't have any chicken safe vegetables, and it will only be until tomorrow when I can go and get the food for them. Would corn be dangerous alone if its just for a day?

That would worry me, but I'm not an expert. I'll throw to @Michael OShay ?

Uh oh! I hope I can catch it!) I would avoid feeding them cracked corn except as a last resort. Do you have any neighbors around that feed the wild birds. Perhaps you could borrow some bird feed from them and mix it with some oatmeal. If you have some eggs in your house, you could boil some of them and mash the boiled eggs up and feed them to your chicks. It would be an excellent source of protein. If you do end up giving them cracked corn, grind it up as fine as possible.

Could I possibly give the chicks some scratch? Otherwise if I can't do that, I'll do the eggs.

Do you have a colander you can use to strain the larger corn pieces out of it? If so, you can give them some scratch for the next day or two. It would still be a good idea though to feed them some boiled egg in addition as growing chicks need lots of protein.

I agree with Enola, just be sure they have grit and you should be good to go. Oatmeal, pretty much any grain/pasta/rice product is okay. You're not looking at long term nutrition here, just filling bellies for a day.
