Can I feed strawberries to my chickens?

When my daughter was 13 (8 yrs ago) she did chickens through 4 H, black sexlinks. They would eat anything. She still recalls the horror of picking eggs and dropping one and seeing the chickens pounce on it.

I just started a new flick this year after not doing chickens for a long time. I had some strawberries that were about to turn and some watermelon that wasn’t very tasty. The chicks wouldn’t touch them. I don’t know if it was because I spooked them when I threw them (I left them there for 24 hours or so), or because they weren’t very good or because they are picky? I haven’t tried it again.

But, they are in the yard every day and eat lots of greens and bugs. They have started following me to the garden. They haven’t tried to eat the kale or any other stuff yet. They were pecking around the weeds and the straw I use for mulch (I hope they get in there and eat the bugs). I am concerned about what’s going to happen when the tomatoes start growing I’ve just put them in the garden and the peas and beans.
I do not use pesticides.

Fruit? I gave my flock a little this afternoon:
