Can I file a complaint??

Tala,
The exact same thing happened to me when I bought this house 12 years ago. The renters (previous to me) used and continued to use my address to get out of bills. To make things worse the guy was my garbage driver. I returned a few envelopes. Then I started getting collection calls from a local dept store for the wife. That kinda freaked me because they would have needed to track down my new phone number. At this point I filed a police report. They both were being sought by collection agencies around the country, and there was a warrent for arrest in Texas, by the state of Texas, for felony fraud. Then they made the fatal mistake of letting me get my irritated little hands on some personal information. BINGO I knew where he was. Spent one day calling around the country including the State of Texas, informing them all where he worked and lived. Never got another thing. And thankfully they never effected my credit etc.

BTW everyone I talked to was very nice about the situation, and wanted to help. ALL were very forthcoming with info. And NONE cared about getting their letters back.

Guess I'm suggesting a police report, and CYA. Good luck

Imp- To this day still, I won't even put junk mail in the garbage.

We have lived here for 8 years and I still occasionally get bills for current medical procedures for the previous owners. I have called Hospitals, Doctors etc to let them know, but if they are too stupid to change the info, I figure they deserve not to be paid and I chuck them.

True dat.

People getting away with not paying has got to be part of the reason that healthcare is so expensive --- the rest of us have to pay for the slackers.

We still occassionally get bills from Hubbys Ex (she died in 03) after he left her to come back to me, she ran up all the CC and went to see every doctor in the SE for her "illnesses"
I send those back with a copy of the divorce and seperation papers, which clearly states as of such and such a date he is no longer responsible, these are always dated after the date. After 7 years it is finally almost stopped.
She stopped making payments on the van right after they seperated, they tried to come after him, we had a friend who is an attorney and she worded the seperation agreement awesomely and the date it was effective was the date he actually told her he was leaving.
We struggle to pay our bills, but we pay them. People that don;t affect us all.

Talk to your local Post Master. Tell him that you do NOT want this person's mail coming to your house because THEY DO NOT LIVE THERE!!!!!!! And they will stop sending to your address. You have to fill out a piece of paper with the names of those living in your house that can recieve mail. And they will also speak to your route carrier to inform them that that person does not live there.

And once in a great while you may recieve something for that person. Just put a note on it to the Post Master....This person does not recide at this address and stick it back in your mail box.

If you live in a bigger city, you may have to speak to the post office more than once. But eventually you will stop recieving that person's mail.

That person probably never gave a change of address to the post office. That's why you are still getting it. But they can track him down.

Good luck!

I agree with Dancing.....if you go to your post office they'll give you a form where you write down everyone that should be getting mail at your address. Then the stop delivering mail to anyone not on that list. We had to do it here. We bought the house and got (surprise!) envelopes from the hospital for the woman that had lived here and envelopes from those payday loan places for her son who was grown and NEVER lived here, and credit card company envelopes for his wife. That form stopped it. I think I've gotten one thing since then and that was a day that we had a substitute carrier because our whole street got each other's mail that day!

I've had my PO box for 3 years 2 months..... I STILL get mail for the ranch that was in it before. STILL. Mostly bills. I save up everything for the week, wrap a rubber band around it and really nicely grab Kevin at the counter and tell him, "They still don't live here, 1000 days and counting now."

honestly, i'd be careful with that. my ex boyfriend lived in an apartment when we first met like 2 years ago.. and the lady who lived there before him and his (stupid) friends i guess never changed her address. they used to get her mail all the time and they just started throwing it away... they got sued.
