I'm just wondering if it's healthy to give my chickens water from a softener. We have well water. Unfortunately I don't really have any other options, but I'm sure I could come up with something else to give them.
Thanks!

I’m glad this issue was brought up. Our city water smells and tastes awful. It is brown and often ruins our clothes. We will not drink it and have stopped giving it to our two small dogs. With nine chickens and heat indices of 105 averaged daily it is hard to do that for them. That’s a lot of bottled water so we also don’t like the plastic and environmental imprint it makes. We have been considering a filtration system as well and I want to get water run directly to our run. It’s not far from our house is why we have carried cold electrolyte water out to them along with fresh plain water twice daily but it’s hard on a disabled back. We really want to tackle both projects and the filter is most important for all of us. So there’s no problem? No harm and nothing they would be missing? I don’t think chickens need fluoride. Lol!

Terminox is a backwashing filter. Takes all the bad crap out, but leaves water tasty.

I use a water softener on well water. I use potasium instead of salt, but I wouldn't be concerned using either. I just chose potasium since I backwash it near nice trees and wildlife. A trace amount of either sodium chloride or potasium chloride is present in the treated water, otherwise soft water is just water with less minerals, notably calcium and iron, or in my case calcium, iron, and manganese.
