this little guy has taken a bath in wet soil from the flower bed

how do i clean her? or him?

No need - once things dry up, it will be back to normal. If the soil is wet, then scratching, preening and "dust / mud" bathing is all part of being a chicken. It's best to let them clean themselves - washing is usually only recommended for cleaning areas where injuries have occurred, and I would assume, showing birds.

just as has been said, leave him be. he's okay.

A solid white Roo we had awhile ago was almost completely brown after the run got totally muddy after a couple days of steady rain. Within a day after it dried up he looked like this. I was amazed how quick he cleaned himself up.
