When I was cleaning out the cupboard I found some individual cups of applesauce dated june of 2011. Can I give them to the chickens? Will they even like applesauce? I would put it in a pumpkin half, probably...

"Out Dated" is a term implemented by the FDA. It is useful for rotating stock and ensuring we buy fresh food but does not indicate whether the food is fresh or edible, just a guideline. Like most government programs, rules and guidelines, they appeal mostly to those without common sense. Studies show even medications can be safely taken for a year after "expiration" as they only lose a very small percentage of effectiveness. Only "life saving" meds should never be taken after they expire. That said, my family throws away everything the day it expires driving me crazy.

Definitly still edible. Feed to your girls or eat it yourself.
