I am wanting to raise a polish chicken to fill my flock number to 6. I can not find a started pullet so I am going to have to raise it up as a chick. I know I can not put the tiny 4 week old with the adult laying hens. What should I do? I can only get 1 more (the laws). I do not want the chick to be lonely so I could put the young chick in a dog kennel next to the others birds so they can see each other. What should I do? Do I just keep looking for started pullets or what? All help is apprciated.

If you can provide heat, i see no reason you can't brood it separately in sight of the others

Because it's alone it may have a harder time joining the flock. Are your other birds Polish as well, or what breeds do you have? Polish often get bullied by other breeds due to their head feathers, so that's something you need to keep in mind.

I'm running into this same situation, so here's what I'm going to do:

Our main order of (8) pullets are coming in this Thursday. Our Roo, an Ayam Cemani, is delayed and won't arrive until May 17th. Rather than raise him alone, we're also going to get 3 or so more pullets to raise along with him. Once he's ready to go out and be integrated with the flock (that's 5wks ahead of him), we'll sell off the 3 pullets he was raised with as 'started pullets'. (I would keep them, but I don't really have the room for the birds or that many extra eggs in the end.)

EDIT: OP, I just re-read your post and realized that you can only have one more chicken by law (that's a sucky law). Do you think you could slide by for the 5-6wks it would take to raise your polish until feathered out and then sell others (if you did as I'm going to do)?
