Can I justify a LAYING flock of EEs?

My EE's are very consistent layers- about 5 out of 7 days

jmc - We got her from an Agway store which got their chicks from Mt. Healthy. We have since bought EE chicks from Meyer, MMM, and Cackle. All are great. Really though, the EE are good layers and a hardy bird. Our winters dip into -30* and they do not have frozen combs and live in unheated coops. Our egg customers love blue and green eggs too. The EE are less expensive than say a Maran and again, egg customers think the colors are great.

thank you. i think it is important for ALL to see--those who like to make gross generalizations that 'hatchery bird are neither long lived, nor healthy, nor long productive'--that your girl has proved herself to be healthy and vigorous!

Newbies need to be very careful about how they take such generalizations, which ABOUND in BYC!

Tell me about. We do have "SQ" birds. Actually one standard Blue Cochin hen was on on championship row 2 years in a row. She came from hatchery stock. The eggs for eating sell for the same price as ones that came from "SQ" stock. Depends on what a person wants.
