Can I keep my chicks indoors?

Having them as close as possible for awhile makes it so much easier! Our last batch of feed store chicks stayed in my daughters room for a few weeks too long lol. It was a mess! We only had a few chicks so the smell wasn’t too bad

Mine also are in house as much easier to regulate temp than outside with temp fluctuations and the possibility of losing bulbs or electricity.

I kept my chicks in the garage for 3 1/2 weeks, then out to the brooder in the coop. They are 6 weeks old today, and really starting to integrate with the hens I already have. I have small doors between the brooder and the rest of the coop, so they can escape from the hens when they want. It works great for me.

My chicks are indoors at the moment. They are In my livingroom! They are 3 weeks old. I want them out by 5 weeks. They don't really smell but they do make a bit of a mess when they're scratching about. They have a chictek brooder plate but spend most time sat on it than under it!View attachment 1425832
The light is just a normal low energy bulb. Not a headlight.
Wow, we have pretty much this EXACT set-up. Ours are three weeks too. Our run is almost ready but the custom coop we ordered is delayed until July. Thinking of having them use the brooder box as a temporary coop for a week or two once they're fully feathered.

Dang girl, until July? I think they are giving you guys the runaround........... I would have complained and if they didn't get it here in time, then I would get my full refund back and look elsewhere!

Yeah, I was really pissed, BUT I can't find one of similar quality and we don't have time to build one ourselves. I'm about killing my husband with the work n the run alone! :D

If the brooder is roomy enough it should be fine to use it as a temporary coop. I'd put it inside the run for more safety and space, and just make sure the chicks know how to get in and out of it. If the run isn't quite chick-proof yet (i.e. you're using chain link and the holes are too big) you can use hardware cloth, netting, or chicken wire to encircle the brooder to make a temporary mini run.
