Can I Keep Roosters together?

We understand you raised them and are attached but it's part of being responsible animal owner to make sure each and every animal lives a comfortable life.

10:1 is a good starting point. My boy still over mates his favorites at 12:1.
Yeah, I have 11:1 and I have to take his favorite out every now and then to let him cool down and her rest.

Enjoy them while they are little, as they age they may make the decision to remove easier for you. The cream will rise to the top, so keep him forsure but if you don't plan on expanding your flock or breeding 3 or 4 could be a time consuming hassle for everyone.

I enjoy rehoming my extra boys and have made fun chicken friends as they send me photos of their flocks and great spaces. (wait... I'm not the only one who enjoys chickens?!!) I personally find it rewarding to see pent up potential getting to do what he does best- strut and protect and care for his own flock and just bloom. It seems the bigger gift of love than trying to hold onto. Just vet any perspectives.

Or... you can do as many of us have done... start building your rooster palace :lau
Just don't beat yourself up if you need to do some cuts for their benefit and yours.
Congratulations on the beautiful flock 🌴:frow

Over the years I've had up to 7 or 8 roosters at a time. But I usually had 50 or 60 hens too. Right now I have two roosters with 27 hens and the boys are getting along just fine. So much depends on the personality of the rooster. Some of them are just born to fight. And those get weeded out of my flock pretty quick.:old
