can i make a incubator out of a plastic tub

I made this one a while ago and hatched chicks from it, I am using a diff incubator currently, but I wanted to add some eggs but wanted to heat them up first, since I am going to fire this one up, I thought I would show how I made it.

first I took a 10x7x9'' box w/out lid you can foil the bottom, or I used a foil turkey liner and cut it to size.

Then added a lamp, I have used clamp lamps before. The bulb is 15W (if using a cla,p, I slit down the side and have the clamp hanging out, this didn't have clamp, so I out the wiring through the slit, and the slit is good for air flow

I use skewers to hold the wire above the lamp poking in 3 or 4, 3'' from the top of the box. I put the wire down then foil over that, leaving foil off the end the bulb is on, and put a cloth on the end the eggs will go on.

the eggs should be placed on the opposite end of the lamp. For this incubator 6 eggs tops, whild more would fit, the heat end would cook the eggs.

I built a lid to go on top of the box, and the glass that is on the lid can be lifted to turn the eggs, I don't remove the big lid. but I can raise and lower the larger lid depending on how hot I need it. (the big lid is a snug fit so it stays in place.) Then I put them in the foam cooler, with out a lid, adding my eggs and thermometer

View attachment 1215888 this one needed just 15 watts 5/6 hatched.
What? How exactly do you plan to make this that you need a heating lamp part?

Have the light sockets in the incubator with a fan blowing over them. A heating lamp with the shield will cause bad temperature hot and cold spots, IMO.
I have a plastic bin, a baking pan in the center for my water and a heating lamp placed at a height that gives me the right temperature. A hygrometer at one end since I have the eggs at both ends away from direct heat. My humidity is at 50% overall inside temperature is 105° and the actual egg shells are between 98° and 100°…also have glass lids over it which I can move to allow fresh air and keep it at the perfect temperature. It's been working very well for me.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Although I have never skinned one :gig I'm sure you get my point. Post some pix of your setup,,, and explain details. If you are currently incubating eggs,,, then post pix of chicks when they hatch. One advantage with your system,,,, you have instant brooder once they hatch. :thumbsup

But mainly I would like to Welcome you to BYC.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome
