.....your babies are def to young with no heat, is your coop to far to run an extension cord out there, one of the outdoor heavy duty ones ?

Do you have other adults they will be going with in that coop? If so, they will be too small, and will get picked on.

If there is no other chickens out there, i would say go ahead and try it. However, i do recommend a heat lamp just in case. They dont have all the feathers on theirs backs yet, more than likely and if they get wet, they will get chilled.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yep! What they said.

Put 'em outside!

Mine have been out in the shed since they were 4 weeks, too.

If the nights get chilly, just provide the heat lamp in an area where they can choose to get some warmth if they need it.

My chicks are 4 1/2 weeks old and their coop and run will be done in a few days. My problem is they have been in an air-conditioning and now they are going to put outside. The temps here have been in the upper 80's during the day and mid 60's at night. Will it be hard on them with the temperature changes? What do I need to be watching for? I'm nervous enough over putting them outside and then my son-in-law who is building the coop brings up the difference in inside and outside temps. Tomorrow I am going to put a thermometer on the inside of the coop and the outside to compare the differences. Is there a certain difference that they should be to make sure there is adequate ventilation? As you can tell this is my first time with chickens. Thanks for the help!!!

Don't jump on me about selling chickens when you don't know what's going on. People sell chickens all the time. I didn't say I was going to drive them to the country and let them go or just stick them in the coop and see what happens. There are plenty of people who would be glad to take these marans off my hands.

I do have adult chickens and know how to integrate chicks and know it takes a lot of time and work.

I won't put heat in the coop because it caught on fire last fall when I had a light out there. I had a really bad set up, but I'm still too scared to do it again, even "safely".

Don't try to tell me chickens aren't my thing because at this moment in my life taking care of chickens in my house is a little too much for me. I have a lot going on right now, non chicken related things that are adding to my stress that I'm not going to get into right now. I asked for advice about putting chicks out, not judjements on my life or choices.

I wouldn't until they feather up a little more unless you have a heat lamp. They are sweet!
