Can I play the Pullet/Roo game? Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks

Hello everyone! I've been eagerly reading all the sexing posts, and I've decided to jump into the guessing game, even though I probably don't want to hear the answer We have six babies - three Buff Orpingtons and three Barred Rocks. They're supposedly about three weeks old. I NEED for them to be pullets because my daughter and I are already so attached to them I can't bear the thought of having to get rid of any one of them.

On barred rocks: chicks 1 and 2 roos. They both have bigger combs and shorter tail feathers. chick 3 pullet. Smaller comb and longer tail feathers. In another 2 weeks you should easily be able to tell. The roos will be lighter in color, larger combs, larger wattles, and yellow feet. Pullets will be darker in color, smaller combs, small wattles, and legs should have a darker tint to them. Might not be the whole leg, might be a patch here and a patch there.

I have no idea on the BO's. I will guess all pullets.

I also think the first two are male and the rest are female. I completely know how you feel too, I have to get rid of one of mine after finding out he is a rooster.....I cried They all have their own personalities.

The 3 Barred Rocks look all like cockerels and the Buff Orps all look like pullets.

I would say all of the barred rocks are cockerels. Ortolan has a smaller comb than the other two, but the coloring is too light for him to be a pullet. (Great names by the way). I'm not as familiar with Buff Orps -- I have just one that is about the same age as yours. She was sold to me as a pullet, and so far she's turned out to be one. She looks like yours. So my guess is that the Buff Orps are pullets.

(sigh) Yes, this is what I thought as well. I guess the best we can hope is to get one girl out of the barred rocks. It's a pity, because they are all so darn delightful. My daughter named them - she has a wicked sense of humor. She also asked last night if there was any way to neuter boy chicks and to stop them from crowing

Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. I'll follow up when I know for sure for future reference. I'm curious to know how many of the "predictions" in this forum proved to be correct.

Well I would always wait for the crow or egg. I asked on here once about a red chick, I didn't realize she was a sex link...everyone said roo. She now lays eggs daily lol

******10 Week UPDATE***** Barred Rocks still a mystery No crowing yet....

Hi everyone! My adorable Barred Rocks still have me stumped. I'm pretty sure Coq Au Vin (CoCo) is a he, but I go back and forth almost hourly on Marsala and Ortolan. I took these pictures today. I'd really appreciate any and all opinions

One interesting additional detail has emerged - CoCo and Marsala have a few funky odd feathers "bleeding" through, which means they may not be pure Barred Rocks, I assume? Ortolan does not have these feathers.
