CAN I PRODUCE EXTREMELY SHORT LEGS USING THIS PAIR OF NOT EXTREMELY SHORT LEGS BANTAMS?

They are saying that if you have 2 birds carrying the creeper gene & breed them together it can be deadly to the chicks because it causes a severe mutation that kills them.
okay... Now I know, thank you

Hi,

You can breed 2 heterozygous dumpies or kreupers (the German breed) and will get (on average) 50% short legged, 25% long legged and 25% dead in the shell (these are the quarter that get 2 copies of the creeper gene.) Many people prefer to keep long legged roosters for breeding, as they will get slightly larger chickens (it is believed that the creeper gene has an overall effect the size of the chicken.) If you breed a long legged with a heterozygous (for creeper gene) you will get 50 % short and 50 long (on average of course.) As stated before, the creeper gene is dominant.

Good luck with hatching chicks with your mystery chickens.

most of my friends breed for short legs and smaller birds . we have found we get more short legs when we breed a long to short. odd but true. when we breed short leg to short leg we get alot of longs.we tried this with several bantam breeds especially the japanese.
