Can I put a hen in a creat to get broody?

Ok, I won't put a chicken in a cage it is cruel and not right. I just don't know what to do. I can get anything chicken related until we get a hen broody.

Unfortunately, you're just going to have to wait it out. Get ahold of some ceramic eggs, mark them, put them in a nest, and see if you can tempt one into setting. Sometimes it triggers them, sometimes it doesn't. You won't know until you try. Keep us posted and let us know if it happens for you!

I have a chicken that is on some egg right now but I don't know if she is broody because when ever i take her off the eggs she runs away and doesn't go back on them until the next day. so is this the early stages of broodiness or is she just laying (she is a leghorn the only one, she has white eggs and we check the eggs everyday so she already layed for that day!)

If you're still getting white eggs, she's not broody. She probably just likes to relax in the nest for a bit after laying.

HI,
I was wondering if you put a hen in a reguilar sized cage with some eggs, will it get a chicken broody faster?

You can no more force a hen to go broody by confining her to a box or crate than you can make an egg develop into a chick by threatening the egg it with a frying pan.

One of the biggest and best developments in poultry breeding is the hen who never goes broody or sets.

Brooding usually results in a 60 day or longer break in the production of eggs.

If like you said, you have a pure leghorn variety of hen she will never ever sit or go broody. She just don't roll that way.

Heres some advice to HELP a hen go broody, i'd get some golf balls or wooden eggs and leave them in the nesting box, i'd also pick some lavender and let them dry put before putting in the nest, the lavender helps them relax, and if you think your hen is showing any signs of broodiness but isnt FULLY broody i would do anything, taking her off the nest will break the broodiness

As Junebugenna says, she probably likes to relax a bit after laying. If you do get a chicken you think is broody, the last thing you want to do is pester her or take her off the nest. Most broodies tend to like a nice, private place to set. Bugging them when they're setting is very possibly going to discourage them from being broody.

Thats good to hear, but your going to have to be patient and if you think shes even the slightest of broody, Dont bug her shes going to want to be along
