I once tried giving chicks to a broody that was in the process of hatching out some of my eggs. I had a few that would be the same age, and I wanted her to tend them....I tried the way my dad had told me to do it. Well when I reintroduced her to the babies, she pecked one of their skulls in and killed it, so I freaked out and grabbed her and raised all the chicks away from her. She was a loaner anyway. I returned her to her proper farm the following day. I wish the owners had been there because later they called for their hen and I told them I returned her.......she was gone. I have been uncomfortable at the mention of their names ever since.
