Do I need a permit? How much will it cost? I am only breeding them, not using them for hunting.

In most states, you do need a license to keep any Native New World quail, such as California's. However not all of the states enforce this law. You need to check with your local fish, game and wildlife department for info in this and how much it costs. :)

Yes- you must have a permit in California to raise Valley quail. You can buy it from the F&G website. I believe it is the Game Birds Breeders Class 1 license and it runs about $21~. I am looking into raising those myself since they are so pretty :)
