Redhen, I was not getting snotty with you! I really wanted to know if there was anything better, without breaking the meager bank that is!! Sorry, but I do e-yell cause I am suffering from a case of heat illness!(not really, but it was REALLY hot out there)!! Zahvoo got her feelings hurt and I was trying to perk her up!

THE POINT is, that raccoons are not going to go out of their way to kill chickens, it's SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, we are simply harboring natural in a domestic state, nature does not stop just because you hatching something, raise it, pop it in a fence box, and expect it to lay eggs for you.

the DUMB chickens are the ones who get killed.

we've lost several chickens, some to a hawk, some to a weasel, and some to our own dog, the ones lost to the dogf were DUMB enough to walk over while the dog was out and go "HEY DOGGIE! MAY I DRINK FROM YO WATER", the fact is, chickens may be smart, but there are the dumb, or stubborn ones, who don't learn, or pay attention, in nature, you don't pay attention to your surroundings, you get dead.simple.no.second.chances.

people FREE range their chickens, stick them out in NATURE and expect them to be safe.

THis is not true. We should not send the message not to worry about predators.

I dont want anyone to loose their pets to predators, that was always my intention of posting.

Look, when I used to be on here, everyone watched out for everyone and was thoughtful and nice. Everyone gave comments on pens to help us all keep our flocks safe. We went to each other for advice on this. Apparently things have changed, I didnt know I wasnt supposed to help and give ideas.

Im the future as the OP has so politely asked me to shove it, I will do so. I wish no ill feeling towards you. I hope your coop works out and that you never have to experience the pain most people on this forum have because we thought the chickens were safe.​

Let them state their opinion too without bashing it. Coons ARE scavengers. This is NOT a thread that is talking about raccoons in your area. If new members want to learn that there is an entire section about it on the first page.
