I am tired of "Godzilla coons" yes they are smart predators but I can't even post pictures of my freakin coop without being told 5000000000000000 times about nope that wire ain't good enough, nope thats not going to work, nope your hens will be killed, nope you suck RAWRGH! I think welded wire stops most pests. I really hope my birds are smart enough to not run towards the coon! Good grief. And they sleep on a roost not in corners. Yes, I know that some people have had tragic accidents with coons. But crumbs happen! I personally think that coons have become antisuperman on this forum. Gravytrain. Please no flaming grr gotta make sure you know your hens are going to die. I haven't lost a single girl to a coon. Had dogs tear up one I buried and a hawk take a girl that was my first chicken and they didn't have a run. YES, things can happen, but can't there be one post without people starting a fire?

I wonder.... Is anyone even reading the stuff or just trying to get to the good stuff. The arguing isn't that fun after a while...

Of course you can vent. When we build coops and runs we have to make a call about how much to spend on security, and where to secure it. People have differing ideas on that, and that's ok.

LOL!!! Don't worry, we will do all we can to keep those nasty coons out of your coop!!!!

I have 4 adult and 3 baby raccoons in my yard frequently. They haven't messed with the chickens yet.

Imp- But they are formidible predators to any catfood leftover.

I agree with this. Unless they know that my coop = free food I don't think they'd bother ripping through stuff. I know the people building it are going to make it secure.

Plus I do not think people realize that your coop is inside a six foot dog pen and that you have a big (kinda old, but big) dog outside at all times. Plus the little dogs going in and out at all hours!!! It will be ok!

You can rant all you like! You ranted very politely by the way.
I checked out your coop, you did a good job on it! Just remember,
we all learn as we go along. My DH changed some of my plans for my run and my runs sounds like yours. (I was mad about it at first). It is working out fine so far. My DH put deer netting on the top of my run because my chickens started to fly up! I have dominques, 10 pullets, 1 roo. I ended up with 6 roos, 14 pullets and one I am not sure yet. So I bought 6 6 week old pullets. Take care, and I think I am going to make a small coop like yours for the newbies! Theresa
I think I need to change my sig line, I guess I will wait until I get a final count on my roos!!
