Can I run Saxony and Ancona duck together? Can you tell their eggs apart? Do they mainly breed their own kind?

Not sure on the color of their eggs, but they will mate anything with tail feathers, [the drakes that is] so if your thinking of pure bred ducklings best separate into runs for each breed. also your drakes my go after your chickens once they mature so keep that in mind too. Mine never have thank goodness, but I have lots of girls for my drakes, and roos for my chickens. once mating season is over usually after molting starts in September here everyone can be together.

When does mating season start?

Usually starts here in late April but this year because we had a warm spell they were mating in Jan. then it turned cold again and mating and egg laying dropped off till March. Depends on your climate and when your birds come of age. are you getting day olds? if so then in March your ducks would be 8 months old so prime for mating season. Most will say it has to do with daylight but I'm not so sure since mine started mating so early this year. I know I was very surprised to see duck eggs in Jan. Never happened here before and I have had ducks for 9 yrs.
