Saxony ducklings - Different colours at birth

Hi!

The one that was darker at birth is identical to the other, but has a darker chest, almost all dark brown, whereas the other has some white.

They are now 19 weeks old. Both have mature plumage now 😁

He is different from mine, then...!

Are speculum feathers really the same colours for both of your ducks...?
Have you looked at them? (That's how I could see my darker Saxony was actually - very probably - Blue Fawn coloured!!)

(I'm waiting for the pictures!!)

These are the two, I thought that the dark one was in the first pic, but maybe I got them mixed ups me the girl that was killed by a snake was the dark one. What does yours look like?

Here’s a better pic of the ā€œdarkā€ one. All the photos have been taken in the last 10min 🤣

Thank you for the pictures!

What does yours look like?

I don't have pictures of them as they are now, since I have given them away last year...
...but my lighter boy was turning into an ordinary Saxony drake, and my darker one had really started to turn Blue Fawn (apparently at least) : darker head, darker rump, darker speculum... darker overall, in fact...!

Sadly, I can't tell why : was he not actually purebred, or was it due to a mutation...?

Physically, he looked pure Saxony enough... but it is not like if I am an expert on Saxonies, you know?
(These two boys were my first Saxonies ever!!)

Plus, I can't even ask the one who had sold the fertilized eggs to me : the man has NOT replied to me since last year - since I have, in fact, asked him to refund me the last eggs I had bought from him, and that I had eventually received entirely broken...
