I have an almost 3 month old poult that was fine last night but not this morning. After asking on the Michigan thread I'm being told this is a slipped tendon?? Is there anything I can do for her? She doesn't act like it hurts. We've tried to splint it and also tried using vet wrap but neither did any good but make her give up on standing or walking. Without her leg splinted she runs around like it doesn't even hurt!!

Is there anything I can do for her? She's so sweet I hate the idea of culling her. She was one I was going to keep for a pet too

have you taking this chick to the vet? im not sure what you could do but if you were considering keeping as a pet it couldnt hurt to take to the vet.. did you vet wrap the leg straight? i read where it says keep on for a week and only change when necessary

heres the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/201834/update-slipped-tendon-in-4-day-old-bantam-chick-any-hope

some of these ideas could help

hope your baby does okay.

It seems these things NEVER happen unless I'm broke. I didn't get paid last week (grrr) so that's an issue for a vet visit. We tried the vet wrap but then she refused to stand no matter how we wrapped it or where we put it. I hate the idea of culling her although I have a feeling I'll probably have to. I want to wait a few more days then I will. Thanks for your help!

Hey there try posting on this website :

D.C. Townsend is a poultry orthopedic and he gives great free advice!!!! If you look through the posts I'm sure you will find one with slipped tendon. Good luck to you and your chick.....

I grew up raising Light Brahmas as a 4-H project for years when I was a kid. We routinely bought 50 to 100 chicks every year, but we never had to worry. I had a large, crippled hen who turned out to be the best foster mother one could hope for. She could keep track of over 100 chicks, despite the profoundly deformed leg she trundled on. I had always assumed that a roost or something might have fallen on her, injuring her leg when whe was young. Frankly, I do not recall her ever being anything but a crippled Super Nanny. It occurs to me, after reading this, that she may well have had something similar to your ortho problem. Regardless, let me assure you she was as capable as any of my hens, and for those times when we had an order of new chicks, she was SuperMom. She was my favorite, and I loved her dearly.. Don't give up trying, but unless she is in distress, I'd say, let her be herself. I do not advocate "putting her out of her misery" unless/until I am certain she is actually miserable.
