I had a HECK of a time trying to figure out what to make a Nest-Box out of.

I looked on Craigslist and found a FREE beaten-up large book-shelf as well as free wood pannels from a home remodel.
The Book-Shelf was weather-worn, and old, and falling apart.
The Panels, although ANCIENT, weren't quite as bad.
I put some 2x2's in the corners of the bookshelf, and screwed everything back together to make it sturdy.
I installed separators, yadda yadda yadda....

Anyhow, to make a long-story short, I finished it!
ALL BY MYSELF.!!!!!!!!
All hubby did is cut the Separators for me (wouldn't let me use his table-saw).
But I cut everything else with a hand-saw, and put everything together.
On my Very own!
And I am SOOOOOOO happy with the way it turned out.
This little treasure gave me 12 spacious Nest-Boxes. And didn't cost me a dime!
My babies now have 4 Levels, with 3 Boxes on each.
I could have made 4 on each level, and ended up with 16, but I decided to make the boxes spacious.
Here are some Before and After photos.

If you guys don't mind sharing, I would VERY much like to see your nest-boxes.
I know that I am SOOOOOOOO SO SO proud of myself.!!! (Patting self on head)

Very clever of you to use old shelves.
You can see pictures on our nest boxes on our website Backyard Hencam (see below). There is a camera on them so you might even see a hen laying! Have fun with your chicken project. They should love their new nestboxes!

I'm still in the process of getting the coop together and getting birds but I have bought two kitchen cabinets (the kind that sit above the fridge) that are 15" high, 30" wide and 12" deep. Just perfect dimensions for a two hen nestbox. So I plan on using two of those to have space enough for about 10-15 hens eventually. The cabinets cost me $10 each at restore, and are in good structural shape, though old. I would just remove the back (easy to do) and cut holes in the wall where they will go, so that I can get access to the eggs from the outside. Add some bedding and voila.

i have no pics yet, but will take some once they are installed.
