Can I sell chickens?

I don't know if your area has any regulations but I wouldn't see that they would.
But there's nothing against selling chicks that aren't vaccinated or by someone your age as long as you sell them within your state.

Curious just how you know that?
One they were all terrified of being picked up, as he got picked up and never came back. And two I showed them a picture of him and they seemed to recognise him.

My chickens never really cared when they get separated, I don't think it would traumatize the chicks to leave mom after they become independent of her. By that time, they should be around 6-8 weeks old and you should be able to tell which are pullets or cockerels and can sell them as such. If you still can't tell yourself you want to advertise as a straight-run which means people have a 50/50 chance of getting a hen or rooster.

Selling day-old chicks in Maine is regulated I believe, you're not allowed to sell young chicks in any group smaller than six. But older birds aren't as regulated. I still wouldn't sell anyone less than 3 chicks per group, because they are very social animals and will need a friend to help them get used to a new flock/home environment.

Most chickens are, simply because they are prey animals, and anything that picks them up usually wants to eat them. It's instinct.

Yes.
You can sell them as day olds if you would like or any age you prefer. A good place to start would be your local craigslist.
Do you have a local farm/feed store (not a large chain store)? You could see if they buy local...meaning they might be open to purchasing chicks from you for resale in their store. I’m in Louisiana and the town where I live has a local farm & feed store. Among many other things, they sell animals...most of the animals they sell are from local breeders or farmers. They would know their natural chances of getting cockerels vs pullets, and as a retailer would be more protected against people who buy from them & then decide they’re not satisfied with the purchase later.
Good Luck Li’ Entrepreneur!

I always meant to sell chickens but I could never bring myself to do it, knowing that many of the roosters I raised would be eaten, ect. But hope it works out for you.

It would also be traumatic for the chicks, as they would be separated by the only flock and the only chickens they had even known.
I don’t know. Chickens are very smart animals and have very long memory. My chickens still remember a chick that died with them while they were just a few days old!

People probably won’t want to buy the roosters, or at the most maybe one or two people will get one.

I do not think there is any harm in separating the birds, provided they are in groups.
As far as missing eachother goes...
I think they do feel something, but not any fraction of the way we do. And definitely not in the same way. Maybe in the same way I feel when I lose my phone... (PANIC)
But they are not wondering if Nancy is in any pain. It's probably more selfish.
But chickens are very smart.

I’m from the country and people sell raise and sell chicks all the time. I’d be honest and let people know you don’t know what gender they are, though.
A lot of kids and teens around here sell their chicks and do a lot of farming type stuff.

I never realized it could be illegal .. I’m so used to it I guess lol
