Can I use a small dog harness for a chicken

LOL! You *can try* but a chicken is not really known as a walking bird. A dog harness isn't shaped for a chicken so it will likely work, but not be the most ergonomically correct for the chicken. They do sell chicken harnesses on amazon for like $15... but your odds of actually getting a chicken to walk on the harness are pretty low.

I would not use that harness on a chicken. It's just not designed for a chicken body. I think you should get one specifically for chickens. You can "walk" chickens on a leash, but it's not like walking a dog. Basically, you just follow them where they want to go. The leash is just to prevent them from flying off, or walking someplace you don'y want them to.
 
As BaaKaaawk mentioned, you can't really "walk" your chickens. But I have had times when I needed to keep a chicken confined - for instance, bringing home a new roo that wanted to wander off . . . In such cases I have used a light rope / twine with a noose on it around their leg. Then I tie the other end to a tree or stake. This keeps them where they need to be without the heavy and cumbersome harness.
