Can I use an aquarium heater to keep duck water unfrozen?

If I can find some for $10, that would be good--that's only $30 total for my three.

I'm confused about the muffin tin heater--I can see how it would work for chickens, but the ducks get the ground around the water SOOOO wet... I would be worried about electrocution danger. ??

Thanks for all the great ideas! I'm going to see what I can figure out...

No problem! It's a very cool idea, and you and the others have given me lots of helpful tips and advice. I really appreciate it!

For the Gal with Ducks. We had ducks for many years. We have a pond. We purchased an electric unit, circle and it keeps a section ofthe pond open. Enough for our ducks to use.
Hope this helps.

We are now searching how to keep water from freezing for our Chickens. I don't know what a heated Waterer is? $38.00 ???? Where to purchase? How much water? Or does it just heat water in a bucket? Some don't know. Thanks

the thing that works the best ( I have found ) is a large heated dog dish and over it make a wire frame so they can put there heads into drink, but not get in to flop around.

Well, sort of related... what about those heating pads that stick to the bottom/side of a tank for reptiles... could you slap one of those boogers on the side or bottom of a waterer do you think?

Ahhh... here something like this? http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752652

Those
are poda be outside the tank though... wonder if they're waterproof...

Edit... n'mind says right there in the description to ONLY use it on glass and ONLY indoors. Pooh.

Ah but there is this one http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4134008

For
fish... "unbreakable"... auto raises the temp 7 degrees higher than ambient...
Up to 2.65 gallon size and an up to 6.6 gallon size... it's a thought.
