Can I use our dirt as grit?

I live in South Florida and the dirt here is all sand. Can I use it as grit on my new chicks?

I don't like to wonder about soil or sand is suitable for use as grit. For a few $ I can have peace of mind by providing the correct type of grit for my chickens. Grit can be found at most feed stores and online. It lasts a long time, just store the bag in a container along with your feed.

Yup, grit is cheap and better safe than sorry. Fine sand won’t be big enough to do the job for adult chickens, it needs to be fair sized pieces.
